I bought an approved 2013 320i touring in February, and whilst I've been generally very happy with the car, I would like a little more torque. There are many places in the UK offering a remap, but the figures quoted for a stage one map are up at around 280bhp and 420 ft/lb after the map. I cant help but think that is pushing it just a little Produced from 2011 up until 2017, this version of the engine powered the E84 X1 xDrive/sDrive20i, X3 xDrive20i, F30 320i, 320i GT, 420i (F32), 520i and 520Li (F20), E89 Z4 sDrive20i, and the 220i (F22). After discussing on the phone, the mechanic is telling me that due to the design of the manifold, the coolant leak Both the F30 vs G20 offer similar models like the 318i, 320i, 330i, 340i, and the hybrid 330e. However, the F30 chassis is also available with the 328i and 335i models. The 328i and 335i are the equivalent models to the 330i and 340i, respectively. Calling the pistons weak isn't really accurate. They survive up to 600whp on the B58, so should survive to at least 400whp on a B48. I think the reason pistons are being called out is because the most common failure is the ringland at these higher power level instead of a bent rod. Appreciate 1.
There is an SIB issued in October 2012 for this problem - you need to see your dealer and it will be fixed under a warranty. The F30 3 Series has been criticised for body paint which is susceptible to chipping. Rust on the other hand, does not seem to be a big issue for the majority of cars. Is a used BMW 3 Series
2016 BMW 320i [7.87] 2014 BMW 328i [5.25] Ive owned two N20 powered vehicles: 2014 328i, purchased at 29k and drove til 95k when it was totaled. Only issue was coolant thermostat failure replaced under warranty. Car was full bolt on and flashed tuned from 60k onwards.
So on Weds my F30 went in for a routine service: Oil, Filters & Brakes. This time I mentioned it again and was greeted with excellent service, immediately the service consultant got the lead tech out to go on a drive with me and they noted 3 noises: 1) The rattle from the steering column, 2) The rattle from the interior light and 3) The knock yes i know , but i openend this thread to find more owners who have / had the same problems whit the 320 si engine , to show BMW its a common problem whit these engines. there a +/- 30 on order worldwide , i think this isnt normal for a car , and there a 2600 cars made worldwide. and i know a few are already been chanced under garantee.
Common problems relayed by BMW 316i F30 drivers include minor complaints like steering wheel vibration to engine noise to a major timing chain problem. The timing chain failure actually resulted in A-A-Classction lawsuit which compensated owners for the money spent on repairs. The culprit was a fault tensioner.
